Ev.-luth. church Schnathorst: Neo-Gothic hall church on Nikolausweg

The Ev.-luth. church in Schnathorst is located directly on Nikolausweg and is an impressive example of neo-Gothic church architecture. With its cruciform hall and surrounding galleries, it conveys a strong historical charm and invites visitors on the Nikolausweg to take a look inside its richly decorated interior.

A new building in 1901

The current church building became necessary after the previous building was demolished in 1901. The new church was built as a hall church in the neo-Gothic style and combines historical and architectural elements.

Church architecture and furnishings

The cruciform hall with the surrounding galleries and some parts of the old furnishings create a special atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy are the artistic frescoes in the choir area and the historic stained glass windows, which fill the interior of the church with colorful light.

Renovations and renovations

In 1938, the church received a new interior painting, and in 1977, a comprehensive renovation and refurbishment took place. This work served to ensure the preservation of the church and preserve its historic charm.

The first church from 1572

The history of this church site goes back a long way: the first known church was built on the same site in 1572. The current church thus forms an important link in the long religious and cultural tradition of Schnathorst.
