Historical and current information about the Protestant church in Bad Driburg

Next to the church is the "Protestant Community and Pastoral Care Center", which houses a community office and a lending library, among other things, and offers plenty of space for the numerous groups and circles of the community.

Behind the church, the "Bible Garden" of the Senfkorn Foundation invites you to linger. The "Jesus and Zacchaeus" Protestant kindergarten can be found in the Kurpark.

The church, with its Fischer & Krämer organ from 1991, is also the venue for numerous concerts for organ, choirs or chamber ensembles organized by the local choir.

History

For the Protestants in the predominantly Catholic Driburg, it was a stroke of luck that the owner of the baths, Ernst Graf von Sierstorpff, was married to Caroline von Vincke, the daughter of the Protestant Chief President of Westphalia. She hired the assistant preacher Brachmann, who held his first service in the count's chapel at the fountain in 1850.

Brachmann bought a plot of land with a small house opposite the spa gardens, which served as a vicarage with a schoolroom. The foundation stone of the Protestant church was laid on this plot in 1853. The church, a simple elongated sandstone building, initially without a sacristy and tower, was repeatedly extended. In 1889, it was given a tower with three bronze bells. Thanks to the founding of an organ building association, a new Fischer & Krämer organ was inaugurated in 1991.
The friendly-looking little church is now the oldest existing church building in Bad Driburg.
