The Gehlenbeck St. Nicholas Church on Nikolausweg

The Gehlenbeck St. Nicholas Church is the oldest church building on Nikolausweg. It has a long history dating back to the 10th century.

Construction of the current church building

The current church building was built in 1495 in the Gothic style and still characterizes the townscape today.

Predecessor buildings and historical mention

There was already a predecessor church on this site in the 10th century. The "Nikolai Church in Gelenbeke" was first mentioned in a document in 1165.

Image cycle and frescoes in the interior

In the interior of the church, on the north side, there are remains of an image cycle showing a fresco of St. Nicholas in bishop's regalia.
