Gräfenwarth Church

Church
The small Gothic village church in Gräfenwarth was perhaps founded by the von Machwitz family, or possibly by St Mary’s Church in Saalburg in the 14th century.
Like the church in Friesau and the chapel in Kulm, Gräfenwarth was incorporated in the Cistercian convent in Saalburg. The convent obtained income from the village as soon as it was founded in 1325. The idea that the church was a place of pilgrimage for the nuns is pure fiction created by more modern authors. Gräfenwarth was a chapel during the visit by senior church officials in 1533. The interior furnishings date back to the 18th century.
