Farm centre 38: Contribution to diversity in agriculture
A visit to farmstead 38 is a must. Magnificent organic grain varieties such as oats and spelt grow here, and you can meet fascinating ark animals: Thuringian Forest goats, Rough-woolled Pomeranian sheep and Poitou donkeys.

The background to the ark project: Many people know that wild plants and animals are dying out. What is less well known is that many crops and farm animals are also under threat. Today, the demand for food is met by a few high-performance varieties and breeds. Every fortnight, a livestock breed dies out - a breed adapted to the climate and location, a genetic heritage and cultural asset at the same time.

In Germany, over 100 breeds are on the "Red List of Endangered Livestock Breeds" of the Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animal Breeds (GEH). The Elbe River Landscape Ark Region and the Amt Neuhaus Ark Centre have set themselves the goal of keeping these breeds in agriculture and making targeted use of their special characteristics with farms such as Hofstelle 38.

The Heck cattle and Koniks in the nearby Sude meadows are also part of the farm.
