Evangelical St. Martin's Church

The parish of St. Martin's Church was founded around 800. It was the baptismal and mother church for 15 surrounding branch churches and the seat of an archpriest.

With the founding of the Lippoldsberg monastery at the end of the 11th century, Oedelsheim, which had previously been a central ecclesiastical location, lost its importance. The predecessor building of today's church fell into an increasingly poor state from 1765, so that it had to be demolished in 1825. Between 1826 and 1830, the present church was built from the stones of the old church according to plans by Kassel architect Daniel Engelhard. A bell from 1616 hangs in the tower. The chalice-shaped baptismal font comes from the previous church and probably dates from before 1300, as the baptismal rite and therefore the shape of the font changed afterwards. It has been depicted in the coat of arms of the municipality of Oedelsheim since 2000.
