Fieldstone church with a legendary history

The Sottrum fieldstone church was built in 1737 after the previous church was demolished due to dilapidation. The tower is much older, probably from the 13th century.

The church's name probably goes back to St. George, who professed Christianity and died as a martyr. According to a Sottrum legend, a knight freed the inhabitants from an evil dragon during the construction of their church and slew it in battle. In gratitude, the church was given his name. When you visit, you will find the colorful wooden sculpture of the knight St. George under the organ gallery.

As an "open cycle path church", the church is accessible daily from 10:00 to 18:00 from March to October. We want to give visitors the opportunity to visit the church outside of the service times, for a short pause and for a prayer.

You are also welcome to take part in our church services or visit the diverse offerings of our church community, which includes over 4300 parishioners.

We look forward to welcoming every guest!
