Johannes-der-Täufer-Kirche - Horstedt

Church

Simple, relatively young brick church by architect Eberhard Gildemeister

The foundation stone for the beautiful and simple brick church designed by architect Eberhard Gildemeister from Bremen was laid in March 1961, followed by the consecration of the Church of St. John the Baptist with adjoining sisters' house on 3 Advent 1963.

With a great deal of imagination, he created a church building that invites you to linger. The red brick building blends in well with the village structure. The church is also interesting due to its symbolism. Gildemeister worked with circular shapes, crosses and squares and added an exciting number symbolism. It is worth taking a short tour of this special church, take your time and let the finely structured space, which has been thought through in every detail, take effect on you. Outside there is a Bible and labyrinth garden that invites you to take a walk and linger.

The community center "Hus op'n Barg" provides space for gatherings, activities and experiences. Everyone is welcome here, including at the services held in or outside the church by the Evangelical Lutheran parish.
