Church
The Markloh church of St. Clemens-Romanus probably stands on a Thingplatz.
The magnificent paintings, which are around 500 years old (including a remarkably heartfelt depiction of the Last Judgement), were extensively restored at the beginning of the last century. The church itself is 800 years old and Romanesque in style. Only the two low side aisles date from the 19th century.
The good ones in the pot, the bad ones in the bowl... Everyone knows this phrase from a Grimm's fairy tale. What shines through there in the image of counting peas was visualized around 1500 by an artist in the Markloh church with the great scene of the Last Judgement: Christ, the judge of the world, separates the righteous from the damned. The former enter the heavenly Jerusalem, the latter burn in the hellish dragon's mouth. The sermon is no longer preached in this way in the beautiful Romanesque church - thank God!

However, the viewer will find a surprisingly well-preserved work of medieval piety that is unparalleled in the region. The widely known choir painting invites you on a little voyage of discovery. Not only purely religious programs can be found. From pre-Christian mythology and fairytale motifs to sages who seem to meditate on the tendrils of the "spirit of the world", there is much to inspire. Thus, from the Middle Ages and the end of the 19th century comes a thoroughly contemporary challenge to the meaning of all life. Finally, anyone who likes to look at female figures from church history will get their money's worth with the depictions of four female saints.
