The church was built in 1819 under the direction of Oberland master builder Johann Friedrich Paulsen in the neoclassical style. The hall church with seating for almost 500 was restored in 1970/71.
The square tower has an octagonal, copper-covered spire, the tower and church walls are painted red and the roof is covered in dark slate.
The interior is white and the walls are painted yellow. The pulpit altar stands in the middle of the choir. The baptismal font and the altar cross are also worth seeing. The Meyer organ in the church in Intschede dates from 1850.
