... (“St. Stephen on the Mount”). There is no conclusive evidence as to when the St. Stephanus church was built. However, the ground at the site of today’s church already held a building from the 1st century AD onwards, which indicates that this used to be the site of a watchtower in Roman times. Evidence has also been found of a previous Carolingian construction here. After losing its tower to a lightning strike in 1830, the church building has its own very special appearance.
