Church
The church was constructed as a small chapel to Mary in the mid-12th century and was extended with two towers to become a Romanesque church in about 1230.
The High Gothic extension was added from 1350 onwards. The church was used for services until 1527. The nave was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years’ War and has been a ruin since 1633. The southern tower was demolished in 1803 because it was in a state of disrepair. The tower, which was restored in 1996/97, contains the church bells. Widen Church is the oldest and most beautiful sacred historical monument in the town of Weida. It is an ideal place to visit at the end of a walk around the town or during the walk from Weida to Wünschendorf. There is a selfie point on the forecourt, which provides a unique souvenir photo against the background of Osterburg Castle.
