- Destination: Bökerhof Castle in Bökendorf
On this 6.5-kilometre circular trail, you walk partly in the footsteps of the Westphalian poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, as the trail intersects the "Annette von Droste-Hülshoff Hiking Trail" (Marienmünster - Vörden - Altenbergen - Bökendorf - Bellersen).
You start at the castle Bökerhof. In the 19th century, the Bökerhof was a meeting place for scholars and people from the arts and culture known as the "Romantic Circle". These included Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, the Brothers Grimm, Clemens von Brentano and Josef von Görres.
They walk uphill towards the open-air theatre. An active amateur acting ensemble has been performing children's plays, comedies and musicals for adults here since 1950. A covered grandstand allows open-air theatre in all weathers. During the summer months, the theatre performances are well worth a visit.
The rest of the trail is lined with information boards with interesting facts about Bökendorf. Benches invite you to rest and enjoy the beautiful landscape. If you walk a few metres further at the "Wüllenberg" (above the refuge), you will reach the award-winning communal meadow of Bökendorf. This is one of the largest contiguous orchards in the Höxter district.
Almost at the end of the path, to the west-east of the Bökerhof farm, you will see the "Lämmerkamp", an extensive avenue of lime trees, at the end of which a cross has been erected. Since the end of the 18th century, the Way of the Cross has been walked every year on Good Friday as a procession of supplication - under the protection of the Lämmerkamp avenue.
At the opposite side of the "Lämmerkamp", you will now cross the "Laubengang". This is a largely preserved hedge of hornbeams. In the first third of the 19th century, the von Haxthausen siblings and their numerous guests, such as the Brothers Grimm and Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, used to stroll along it in the summer months.
