Directions

Start your route through the railway underpass – on the other side an interesting graffiti on the tower awaits you. Then you pass the Spich cemetery onto a car-free and quiet asphalt path that leads you through fields. Although you ride along the Spich industrial area, it is wonderfully green here. After the golf course, you reach a nice racing track that takes you to Kriegsdorf – a place with medieval roots and one of the 12 localities of Troisdorf. The cycle path runs along the edge of the town to the Rotter Lake with a sandy beach and bathing facilities. Then continue on a pretty gravel route where you can speed straight ahead, then switch back to a lonely asphalt path.

Cross the bridge over Kriegsdorfer Street and ride through a residential area, past the football pitch. The surroundings are dominated by wide fields, and you continue through a residential area of Eschmar towards Sieglar Lake. Although it is not a bathing lake, the lake is ideal for viewing and wildlife observation. Take a small break here by the idyllic water to enjoy nature and waterfowl. The lake has two breeding islands for numerous bird species.

Continue on the cycle path along the Sieg, where you ride over a dam on a gravel track towards Siegburg. After so much "Sieg," now comes "Agger": at the Agger weir, you leave the Sieg and follow the Agger along the Agger-Sülz cycle path through the Agger meadows. Those who like can take a break at the Agger weir first – a popular spot on the river with a bathing area. Then continue past the indoor and outdoor pool Aggua. The cycle path runs on a gravel path over the dam, with a beautiful view of the floodplain meadows and occasionally standing trees. Here you can relax and ride straight ahead.

At the Agger stadium, turn into the forest. After a few hundred meters, you get the first view of the Wahner Heide, with its sandy paths and heather. There are places to rest and seating on old tree trunks. The gravel path leads through the forest closer and closer to the Agger, and the river peeks through the trees again and again. After a few kilometers, the path branches off, and you follow a stretch of the Sülz. From here the "Flughafenstraße" takes you to the village of Altenrath, where a beer garden invites you to stop.

A somewhat bumpy asphalt path now leads straight through the Altenrath creek valley with some ponds. Then follows a forest path to the Mühlheim ponds, where you can admire water lilies at the right time of year. The field path "Pflaumenweg" then leads you out of the forest into an open landscape with meadows and pasture fences, through an agriculturally shaped area with smaller farms. Finally, you reach the heath center "Turmhof", where an ecological show garden as well as coffee and cake await you (observe opening times).

The Pestalozziweg brings you back into the silence of the forest. After the Kalmus pond, you immerse yourself in the typical heath landscape, with sandy open areas and broom. With some luck, you will see donkeys and goats grazing here. The path leads through heath and pastureland past the Geisterbusch, and the views from Busenberg are among the highlights. At the edge of the forest, you will also find a water buffalo pasture.

After another forest passage, you reach Altenrath again, where you can make a short stop at the Romanesque pillar basilica. Finally, an old tank road (with a parallel drivable trail) takes you to Fliegenberg. From here, you ride on the "Eisenweg" (an old trade route to Siegerland) through a beautiful heath section. Shortly thereafter, a bright pine forest welcomes you. To end, a great descent follows to Spich. A short stretch through a residential area, and you are back at the station.
