The "Energy Route" is a 40 km long circular route through Grevenbroich that takes you to the individual stations of energy production. The energy trail shows you the connections between energy production, open-cast lignite mining and the recultivation of areas formerly used for lignite mining.
The route leads past the lignite forest, from whose plants lignite was formed 30 million years ago. Other stops are the Garzweiler open-cast mine, which shows you the dimensions of lignite mining, and the Neurath power plant, where electricity is produced from lignite. The wind energy plants on the Frimmersdorfer and Vollrather Heights and the former largest photovoltaic plant in Germany on Lake Neurath are also stops on the tour, which will show you the possibilities of renewable energies.
