Your circular hike starts at the “Siegelsknippen” as a forest walk. A forest path runs through the silence of the Kaldauer Forest. The Seligenthaler Straße, with little traffic, takes you past the ruins of the Ummigstal bridge, which was destroyed in the war, to the idyllically situated monastery complex. The monastery church (the oldest Franciscan church in Germany) built in the 13th century and a baroque chapel have been preserved. The former monastery complex is now used as an event hotel. The path continues through the valley partly on narrow forest paths, and from time to time the lively Wahnbach accompanies you towards the dam. This is followed by a steep, albeit short, root path to the ridge. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts with the magnificent view from the dam wall over the deep blue surface of the water. A winding section of road uphill takes you past fields and orchards to Gut Umschoß. Below the estate you will find comfortable benches on a meadow with a view of the lake. After a passage through a beautiful walnut tree avenue, another natural monument awaits you: an old copper beech with an enormous circumference. A path through the Ummigsbach valley, which crosses the stream several times and passes ponds, leads through the forest back to the starting point.
