Very beautiful circular tour on both sides of the Weser to Bad Karlshafen and back to Höxter. The tour can be shortened at several points by bridge or yaw rope ferry.

Get to know the Weser Cycle Path and the beautiful Weserbergland on this circular tour through three federal states. Upstream on the Weser, you always stay on the right-hand side of the river until you reach Bad Karlshafen. Along the way, you will pass great viewpoints and rest areas, but also have numerous opportunities to stop for refreshments. Particular highlights are certainly the castle and castle park in Wehrden, the farming town of Beverungen and the Herstelle monastery on the top of the hill. Bad Karlshafen itself is an old Huguenot town and surprises with a completely atypical appearance for the Weser Uplands.

On the way back, you use the other side of the Weser and cycle leisurely across Würgassen, Lauenförde and Fürstenberg back to Höxter. Enjoy the intense aroma of the large strawberry fields in Meinbrexen during the strawberry season or stop off in Fürstenberg and walk up the short forest path to the Fürstenberg Porcelain Manufactory Museum.

You can also find the route for navigation at outdooractive and komoot.

Directions

Actually, there is almost no need to give directions for this tour. You start at the historic town hall and simply follow the cycle path signs for the Weser cycle path to Bad Karlshafen on the way there. Shortly before Herstelle, however, disregard this tip and do not cross the bridge, but simply cycle straight on to the Herstelle ferry and then follow the cycle path to Bad Karlshafen.

After a rest in Bad Karlshafen, cross the Weser over the bridge and follow the signs to Fürstenberg again. In Würgassen, you leave the Weser for a short distance before rejoining the river along the Dreiländereck marina and continuing your tour via a short unsurfaced passage to Lauenförde, continuing across Meinbrexen to Fürstenberg. In Lauenförde and Meinbrexen, you will have to cycle short sections without a separate cycle path along the through-town roads.

In the quarry below Fürstenberg Castle, you can park your bikes and take the short forest path up to the museum. Then follow the cycle path across Boffzen back to your starting point in Höxter.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

You can shorten the circular tour in several places or simply change sides of the Weser as the mood takes you. The best option for this is certainly one of the yaw rope ferries in Wehrden or Herstelle.
