This fairly challenging bike route takes you from Schmallenberg in a wide arc through the Sauerland forests. Dense spruce forests are repeatedly interrupted by impressive views. Overall, there are 13 listening points with their exciting stories about the land and its people to discover on this route.

Cycle and listen in the "Bauernland" - a total of 18 small and very small villages belong to the so-called Bauernland. The view here extends particularly far over the fertile high plateau with its extensive fields and forests. Discover this delightful spot along the route over a total of 42 kilometers and listen to exciting and touching stories about the land and its people along the way. A total of 20 audio stations, called "listening points" in Sauerland dialect, invite you to listen. 13 of these are located directly on this bike route. Whether churches, villages, farms or legends and fairy tales – the wealth of stories is great. A bit of effort is required as you must crank the audio stations to bring them to life – a truly unique pleasure for big and small story lovers. Along the way, country inns and a café invite you to stop and enjoy.

Directions

You start this challenging route at the Wood and Tourism Center.

After a short climb through the town towards Wormbacher Berg, you cross it and head towards Wormbach. A first stop is directly at the Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, which can be combined with a visit to the Hawerland bakery Rittmeier or the Hawerländer inn to take a closer look at this listed church building.

Then you follow a bike path to the entrance of the village Ebinghof, after a left turn you enter the forest and then go along beautiful meadows to Berghausen. There you can make a short refreshment stop at the inn Heimkehof. The route then leads above Oberberndorf along the mountain "Kohlhagen" to Niederberndorf. After a longer but also demanding descent, you finally reach the village.

ATTENTION: Between Berghausen and Niederberndorf, a descent over a gravel path requires your full attention. If you are unsure, we advise you to get off and push here.

Through Oberlandenbeck and Henninghausen you now reach Cobbenrode. The Stertschultenhof, a farm first mentioned in 1310 that is now used as a museum, is located a little away from the route on the edge of Cobbenrode but is definitely worth a visit. If you are looking for a gastronomy option, the Hotel Henneman in Cobbenrode is suitable for a short break.

Leaving Cobbenrode now towards Bracht, you face a longer climb, which you quickly overcome thanks to the e-bike support. After a relaxing descent, you now cycle once around the village of Bracht. In Bracht you can eat something at the food truck "Das Bustaurant" and recharge your batteries. After circling the village, you return to Hawerland and pass through the villages Werntrop, Selkentrop and Felbecke before reaching Wormbacher Berg again along the Rennefeld airfield, between Wormbach and Werpe.

Finally, a descent through the town center of Schmallenberg follows until you reach the start and finish point, the Wood and Tourism Center.

Two challenging climbs, one roughly in the middle of the route and one towards the end, require good "management" of battery capacity – use the stops along the way to recharge if necessary.
