Directions

From the Wood and Tourism Center in Schmallenberg, the route on the SauerlandRadring initially leads you to the "Firewood" station in the Breite Wiese industrial area and to the Besteckfabrik Museum in Fleckenberg. On the Philosophenweg, you cycle back to the Schmallenberg town center along a former railway line and via Weststraße to the "District Heating Network Kirchplatz" station at St. Alexander's parish church. Continuing back along Weststraße with its neoclassical buildings, the route on the SauerlandRadring continues towards Bad Fredeburg. On the way there, two more stations await: the Energy-Plus House and the substation. The route passes Bad Fredeburg on the former railway line, and you leave the SauerlandRadring to the left towards Ebbinghof. After visiting the two stations in the "Bioenergy Village," you turn here and follow the tour to the district heating network at SauerlandBad and the combined heat and power plant at the school center. Via the cycle path, with views over the Schmallenberg Sauerland, you reach Holthausen with two stations showing (additional) heating with wood and solar thermal energy and the importance of renewables in the electricity mix. Continuing to Niedersorpe, you arrive at the information points for photovoltaics and the controllable local substation transformer. Along the Sorpe and then the Lenne (Lenneroute cycle path), the tour reaches the final stations in Oberkirchen, district heating and hydropower, and the hydropower plant in the Schwarzen Fabrik.
