There is very beautiful scenery around Lake Möhne. For those interested, the lake offers good opportunities for bird watching. Around 25 species of waterbird can be observed regularly. During the winter months there are usually large numbers of Goosanders, Goldeneye and Pochard. During the migration periods Ospreys even occur. Throughout the year, Tufted Ducks and Great Crested Grebes can be seen on the lake. Cormorants come from mid-August to late September to feed at the lake. Usually in the late afternoon they gather near the Heve peninsular. The birds can then be observed from three vantage points. Only approximately 100 birds remain all the year round at the lake.
In the stony areas of the reservoir banks there are large beds of zebra mussel, an important food source for diving ducks and Coot.
