Nature lovers will adore this route. The views from the Niederbergbahn Bergisch Panoramic Cycle Trail over the mountain and valley landscape are simply fantastic. And despite the hilly landscape, you can cycle without a care in the world along the disused Niederbergbahn line. 

From Kettwig in Essen to Haan

This cycle tour takes you from Kettwig in Essen through Heiligenhaus, Wülfrath and Velbert to Haan. Right through the middle of Neanderland. At the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann, you can time travel through four million years of human history.

Over bridges and viaducts on the Niederbergbahn line

And if you are interested in superior engineering, you will get your money’s worth on this route too. Numerous bridges and viaducts are impressive silent testimonies to the railway history of the last 100 years in the Bergisches Land.

To the picturesque village of Gruiten
Other places of interest are only a short pedalling distance away from each other. On your tour, cross the wagon bridge in Heiligenhaus which is the only one of its kind in Germany. Stop off at the Zeittunnel Wülfrath. And the historic village of Gruiten at the end of the tour is also worth a visit.
