Rough landscape, parts of mountains: past former tunnel entrances, mining remains and the Pfannenberg tower.

Mountain biking and good fitness are a must for cyclists who want to immerse themselves in the mysterious mining world. The route leads through a fascinating landscape past former tunnel entrances and other mining remains: such as the Josefsglück visitor tunnel, which is open after registration, or the Kaiserschacht - the deepest former mine in the Siegerland ore district. The view from the Pfannenberg tower over the wooded heights of the Rothaar foothills makes up for some exertion - there is an opportunity to refresh yourself in the nearby excursion restaurant

Directions

The starting point for this tour is the festival site in Mudersbach. When you start the ride, you think you can hear the ride operators shouting, “Now it’s happening!”

It goes under the railway and slightly uphill, then it rolls nicely along the Sieg, past the slate tunnel, which can also be visited. At the next mining relics we turn left, slightly uphill. Past the Findlingsbrunnen we continue towards Brachbach. In Brachbach there is a short, steep ramp and then it rolls well through mixed forest, past more tunnels and carts towards the “Josefsglück” visitor tunnel - with a shelter, carts and a tunnel mouth hole. Take a quick breather there, because now the tour leads along the right trail nicely uphill towards Kreuzeiche. In between, it quickly goes slightly downhill on wider paths, then it goes up, becoming increasingly steeper, and further towards Kreuzeiche and the state border. In between, on the left hand side, you can always be amazed at how high we have already “cranked up”. Once at the top, a wide plateau opens up with a great view. After going straight ahead for a bit, turn left and swing down to the Harteborn pit. Now the path tends to climb again towards Pfannenberg. A few hundred meters after a bend, we turn right onto a beautiful trail and “curve” through a mixed forest dominated by oak trees with heather vegetation. At the top left and then a wide path continues towards the north-east. On a descent with a slight right-hand bend, don't miss the small junction to the left! Short and sweet it goes through the forest across a clearing and straight to the historic Dwarven Cave tunnel, which is definitely worth a closer look. Again about the

“Circle” the barrier and continue uphill to the left towards Pfannenberg. Once at the top we are rewarded with a rest area, a forest sofa and the climbable observation tower on the Pfannenberg. The highest point of the tour at 490 m above sea level has been reached. The view from above is impressive. A narrow path continues onto a wider path, into which we turn left and head down into the valley. At a larger intersection keep right and continue down towards Eiserfeld - be careful with the water tees, which are quite deep here and surrounded by natural stones. We pass the Eiserfelder natural swimming pool and the sports facilities. Be careful in town: turn left onto a small, steep asphalt road that turns a little further up, where we continue straight uphill into the forest. Once at the top, it turns sharply right onto a larger path with occasional ascents and descents relatively parallel to the contour line towards Sandhalde Niederschelden. Before the descent, you have the opportunity to take a small path up to the summit cross on a path that branches off to the right.

Otherwise it now goes down and at the next fork in the road left again into a beautiful path - past the Birkerley and in a long right and left curve down into the town of Mudersbach. From there it is not far and the festival site is reached again.
