Exciting route through the pulsating city and left-Rhine districts with sections along the Rhine and Ruhr.

This route is characterized by a particularly high number of highlights of very different kinds. Starting at Rheinpark, the route crosses the Rhine via the Hochfelder railway bridge and leads through Logport 1, an important logistics center of the Duisburg Inner Harbor. Thousands of cars and containers are loaded here daily. On the other side of the Rhine, there is a view of the Krupp Mannesmann steelworks and the Heinrich-Hildebrand-Hill, on which the impressive Tiger & Turtle sculpture stands. At the idyllic village of Friemersheim on the Rhine dike, the route goes through some left-Rhine districts and green spaces. Finally, the route leads back to the Rhine. Always along the Rhine, it is crossed again. At the Ruhr mouth, the route goes upstream towards Duisburg Inner Harbor and through the city back to Rheinpark.

Directions

From the parking lot, we cycle through the Rheinpark towards the water. Here (or after the route) a stop at the restaurant Ziegenpeter is worthwhile. From there, you can wonderfully observe the shipping traffic on the Rhine. We now cycle up a hill to the Hochfelder railway bridge. On the last section, we have to push the bikes up a short staircase. On the bridge, we have a beautiful view of the harbor and industrial facilities. Caution: Due to the narrow path width, the bridge is officially only open to pedestrians. Please ensure that other road users are not obstructed.

Arriving on the other side of the Rhine, the route leads through a special section. In the Logport 1 area, numerous logistics companies have settled. Thousands of containers and cars are loaded here daily. The cycle paths are well developed here, but please pay special attention to truck traffic. Amid the large-scale commercial settlements is the Krupp civil servant settlement Bliersheim with numerous villas, which are preserved in varying conditions.

We leave the Logport area, reach the Rhine again, and ride along the Rheinaue Friemersheim nature reserve. From here, we have a great view of the scenery on the other side of the Rhine: the famous Tiger & Turtle sculpture on the Heinrich-Hildebrand-Hill, container terminals, and the Krupp Mannesmann steelworks.

A beautiful ensemble of church, teacher’s house, and additional buildings forms the historic core of the Friemersheim village. Further along, the route takes us around the Kruppsee through some districts and parks back to the Rhine.

Always along the water, we now go through a particularly scenic section along the Rhine and Ruhr towards Duisburg Inner Harbor. We pass the Rockelsberg spoil tip, cross the Rhine via the Neuenkamp bridge, and follow the RuhrtalRadweg beside the Rheinorange.

After a while, we turn right and ride straight through the commercial area towards the Inner Harbor. On the bridge, we have a great view of the exciting mix of historic warehouses and modern architecture. At the Schwanentor pier, there is the possibility to explore the largest inland port in the world by harbor cruise.

Via quiet side streets, we reach Duisburg’s main shopping street, the Königstraße. Life pulses here and at the central König-Heinrich-Platz in numerous cafés and shops.

Now we cycle out of town via Düsseldorfer Straße past Kantpark with the famous Lehmbruck Museum. At the large intersection, we cross the main road and turn right into the green belt before the light rail tracks, which we follow through the Hochfeld district until we return to our starting point, the Rheinpark.
