Discover the beautiful sights of the three Bergisch cities - in the nicest way.

THREE OLD TOWNS TOUR: THROUGH BEYENBURG, GRÄFRATH AND LÜTTRINGHAUSEN

Enjoyable hiking in Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid - and through the picturesque countryside in between.

Hike through the region around the three Bergisch cities characterised by its abundance of water on this tour and experience the beauty of the historic centres of these cities far away from big city life.

Idyllic old town centres and magnificent landscapes abounding with water

The imposing Beyenburg Cathedral greets you in the east of Wuppertal. In the old town of Solingen Gräfrath, the narrow alleyways with their romantic timber-framed buildings invite you to take a stroll. The locals fondly refer to the historic town centre of Remscheid-Lüttringhausen as “Dorp”. The old trading route from Bruges to Lübeck once ran through here.

Bergisch encounters in the city - countryside - along rivers

The constant interchanging of valleys and hills is typical in the tri-city area. The hills offer far-reaching views of the Bergisches Land and its seemingly endless forests.

You will come across quiet lakes, babbling brooks and rivers time and time again. Along the Gelpe and Saalbach rivers, traces of past industry can still be found in the midst of the protected natural surroundings. At the historic Steffenshammer smith’s cottage, you can see how people used to work.

You set the pace

Explore the Three Old Towns route all in one go or in stages. It offers scores of opportunities to enjoy the mountainous landscape your way.

Tip for all those who are really warmed up now: Your route meets the Bergisches Weg (Bergisch Trail). This historic long-distance hiking trail covers a distance of 260 kilometres from the Ruhr region to Königswinter on the Rhine – and passes right through the heart of the Bergisches Land.
