The Zille Cycle Path connects nature, culture, and history of the region with insights into the biography of the famous illustrator Heinrich Zille.

The Zille Cycle Path is a varied route that starts and ends south of Brockwitz/Coswig at the Elbe Cycle Path. Named after the famous artist Heinrich Zille, the route leads through picturesque landscapes and historical places.

The starting point of this bike ride is directly on the Elbe Cycle Path and is ideal for exploring the region between the Elbe, Radeburg, and Moritzburg. At the very beginning, a walk to the Boselspitze – part of the smallest mountain range in Saxony, the Spaargebirge – is recommended. After a short ascent, you reach the Botanical Garden, which houses a variety of rare plants. From almost 200 meters high, there is an impressive view over the Elbe Valley.

On the way through the Friedewald forest, you pass a wolf monument that commemorates a hunt by Elector Johann Georg I. in 1618.

The route continues through the forests around Moritzburg, where you can relax your soul on wide forest roads, even while cycling. The forest ponds around invite you to rest.

A few kilometers further, you reach Radeburg, the birthplace of Heinrich Zille. Zille, also known as "Pinselheinrich," was an important draftsman and photographer who mostly captured the Berlin milieu of the early 20th century. In Radeburg, you can visit his birth house and learn more about his life and work in the Local History Museum.

After this cultural highlight, the route leads back toward the Elbe through diverse landscape and attractions, such as the Berbisdorf Water Castle. In Radebeul, a visit to the Hoflößnitz winery is recommended. Here you can enjoy a tasting amidst the vineyards and learn more about Saxon wine growing. The historic winery with its adjacent wine museum is a special gem and offers a beautiful view over the surrounding landscape.

At the end of the route, you arrive at Altkötzschenbroda, a lovingly restored village green with numerous restaurants, cafés, and small shops. Here you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere and conclude the ride.

The route on the Elbe Cycle Path then leads back to the starting point south of Brockwitz/Coswig.

Directions

The route starts at the Elbe Cycle Path in Brockwitz/Coswig and first heads north along Borngasse. In Brockwitz, keep right and then immediately turn left onto Auerstraße. Follow this street to the intersection "Am Spitzberg," turn left onto Spitzgrundstraße, and then immediately right onto Grenzweg. There, take a forest path on the right, and after about 900 m, turn right again onto Grenzweg. Continue cycling this path through the forest to Auerweg. Cross Moritzburger Straße there and continue straight into the forest. At the next intersection, keep left and then turn right into the village Neuer Anbau.

Cross the S81 straight ahead and then turn left onto the path "Heidehof." After about 600 m, turn right onto LW-Weg and then follow Sternweg until you reach the Altenteiche in the forest area. Immediately after the ponds, turn left onto W-Weg and continue straight along HC-Weg to Ziegelwiese. Turn right there onto F-Weg heading towards Bärwalde. The village is crossed via Weinböhlaer Straße, past the church, and along Hohlweg. Just after the village, the route then turns right over the fields along the street "An den Ziegeleien" to Radeburg.

In Radeburg, follow the cycle path along Freiheitsstraße, Gartenstraße, Siedlung, Hospitalstraße, Carolinstraße, and Meißner Straße to the market. At the market, turn right onto Heinrich-Zille-Straße and then right again via Schulstraße, Lindenallee, Bahnhofstraße, and Anbaustraße to leave the town to the south.

In Berbisdorf, keep right onto "Am Sportplatz" and ride along the castle park to Schloss Berbisdorf. Finally, turn right onto Dammweg and follow Bärnsdorfer Straße/S96 to the entrance of Bärnsdorf. There, turn right onto Cunnertswalder Straße and follow it to Jägerteich. Then make a sharp left into the forest onto Volkersdorfer Straße, continue straight on Moritzburger Straße and just before the forest ponds turn left onto Waldteichstraße. Ride along the forest ponds, then a short right onto Alte Dresdner Straße and immediately left again onto Volkersdorfer Straße.

Cross S81 straight ahead and at the entrance to Reichenberg, veer half-right from Dresdner Straße/S179 into Niedergasse, after about 200 meters turn left onto August-Bebel-Straße, and finally turn right to continue straight along Großenhainer Straße, Hochlandstraße, and "Am Brand."

Here the path leads left over Löhnitzgrundstraße further south towards Radebeul. Via Weinbergstraße, An der Jägermühle, and Schulstraße it goes into the city center, passing the Landesbühnen Sachsen. Then turn right onto Meißner Straße and immediately left again onto Weintraubenstraße. From here, the path leads south back to the Elbe Cycle Path. Follow the cycle path right towards Meißen to finally reach the starting point in Brockwitz/Coswig via Altkötzschenbroda.
