For over twenty years, the Hamburg conceptual artist Swaantje Güntzel (*1972) has been exploring the tension-filled relationship between humans and nature. Her works address climate change, environmental pollution, and species extinction, often created in collaboration with science, including the Alfred Wegener Institute or the ESA.
The exhibition STAND DER DINGE. SWAANTJE GÜNTZEL at Schloss Agathenburg brings together central bodies of work into a multifaceted narrative about the destruction of habitats, digital nature images, responsibility, and resilience. For the first time, the artist also opens a personal perspective: experiences of public rejection and threat permeate the exhibition and raise questions about the conditions of artificial work in times of crisis. Thus, a resonance space is created where ecological, media, and personal narratives interweave, making Schloss Agathenburg a visible place where art addresses global issues in a rural context.
