Ev.-Luth. Peter-Paul-Church Sebnitz
The origins of the church date back to the 13th century. In the 15th century, a new late Gothic building was constructed, parts of which, such as the outer walls and the choir, have been preserved to this day. The current nave was completed in 1619.
The wooden coffered ceiling with 88 ornamental and heraldic fields is particularly striking. The two-storey galleries show a total of 55 panels with scenes from the Bible. They were created in 1688 and 1689 by Johann Gottfried Buchardy.
The furnishings include a painted Renaissance pulpit, a sandstone baptismal font from 1586 and a Renaissance altar with carved depictions of the Last Supper, the Descent from the Cross and the Resurrection. The Silbermann organ from 1731 was replaced by a new instrument in 1906, but the original façade has been preserved.
Since 2003, the Sebnitz shadow play has been performed regularly in the church. The church is also a place of silence, prayer and culture.
There is a ramp at the main entrance. the doors (> 90 cm) can be opened with both wings. The nave and altar area are completely at ground level
