Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theatre Görlitz-Zittau

The beautiful Görlitz theatre - also called the "Little Semper Opera" because of its similarity to its sister in Dresden - is home to musical theatre in all its facets with opera, operetta and musicals, as well as the dance company and the cultural region's only orchestra, the New Lusatian Philharmonic Orchestra. The drama ensemble is based in the theatre building in Zittau. In addition to repertoire works, new productions and also modern commissioned works are on the repertoire every year. In addition, the ensemble can be experienced on various stages throughout the cultural region.

The annual highlights are the traditional Christmas concerts, the Christmas fairy tale and the summer theatre productions: an adventure play on the Waldbühne Jonsdorf, comedies in the Klosterhof Zittau, entertaining productions of all genres in the Stadthallengarten Görlitz, open-air concerts by the New Lusatian Philharmonic Orchestra on various stages in the cultural region as well as the trinational theatre festival "J-O-'S" in May and the street theatre festival "ViaThea" in Görlitz/Zgorzelec every year at the beginning of July.
