Kreuzkapelle und Jakobsweg zu Neuerburg

Church

A baroque gem in the forest, located east of the city.

The Baroque Cross Chapel is located on the hillside east of the town of Neuerburg. It features three carved altars by Master Hubert Litge, built between 1707 and 1720. In the anteroom, there is a group of the Entombment by sculptor Johann Hess from Neuerburg. According to tradition, a small prayer house is said to have stood here as early as 1619.

Near the chapel stood an eremitage on a small hill, which was inhabited by several hermits until 1783. The Stations of the Cross leading to the chapel were built in 1896.

The Cross Chapel lies on the historical Camino de Santiago from Cologne to Trier.
