Silence and architecture: Kühlsen Chapel through the ages
St. Josef Chapel in Kühlsen is a small, peaceful sacred building in a natural setting. It is the perfect place for a short break, to pause for a moment or for a quiet moment away from everyday life. The path there leads through a rural landscape and offers an impression of the tranquil surroundings along the way.
The chapel is a single-nave hall church with barrel vaults and a ridge turret, closed on three sides. It was built in 1767 after its predecessor church was destroyed by a storm in 1766. Above the entrance portal are the inscriptions "E V AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM. ANNO 1767" and "Renov. 1955" in the keystone.
In 1955, the chapel was structurally secured after the roof structure had shifted considerably. Ring beams and the addition of an organ platform stabilized the building. Further renovations followed in 2006: New benches were installed, the altar and the Stations of the Cross were restored and the floor was sanded and varnished.
St. Joseph's Chapel is a simple, historic building that is of regional significance both architecturally and in a religious context.
