In the following years, the people of Markersdorf built a larger and more attractive church using the remains of late Roman buildings, which was consecrated in 1455. During the Reformation and from 1753 onwards, the church was extended. The baroque organ loft was built at this time. The hall of the church is characterised by the flat ceiling with a triumphal arch of the choir with a steep cross vault and an apse. The double galleries in the nave are inscribed with the Christian virtues 'Mercy, Goodness, Peace, Truth, Justice and Joy (south side) and 'Patience, Friendliness, Faith, Love, Hope and Faithfulness' (north side). The altar with the figure of Christ and the pillar structure complete the overall picture of the sacred building. Today, the church is an attractive attraction for visitors interested in history along the former ViaRegia.
Furthermore, visitors can discover wrought-iron grave crosses at the Markersdorf church. These probably date from the 18th century and feature special wrought-iron work. An iron box was integrated into each of these crosses, in which the name and the most important data from the life of the deceased were noted.
