The Telescopium in Lilienthal is a faithful reconstruction of the world-famous facility that existed during Schroeter's lifetime.
The 27-foot reflecting telescope of Lilienthal's chief magistrate and astronomer Johann Hieronymus Schroeter was once the largest observatory in Europe.
The replica was put into operation in November 2015 and was financed exclusively by donations. Here you can experience the technology used to carry out astronomical observations more than 200 years ago and the insights astronomers were able to gain with it. Depending on the time of day and weather conditions, the moon's craters, the cloud belts on Jupiter, the ring system of the planet Saturn or the structures on the surface of the sun can be observed in calm air
The Telescopium's visitor program includes a general introduction to Lilienthal's astronomical history and the operation of the historic large telescope.
