Minden Old Town Route

Discover historic Minden on your own with your smartphone: Experience the Minden Old Town Route on Germany's first Beacon Mile:

Simply download the Minden APP from the Google Playstore or the Apple Store. You can also use the free Minden WLAN. Activate Bluetooth on your smartphone. As soon as you are on the Old Town route, you will receive push notifications about the sights on your smartphone and can experience Minden in sound and vision, just like with an audio guide.

A stroll through Minden's upper and lower town is as diverse and full of variety as the history of Minden. In the small cobbled streets, you can feel like you've been transported back to the Middle Ages, when craftsmen and merchants still plied their trade in the narrow, closely connected timbered houses.

Nearby you will come across the proud and representative merchants' and noblemen's houses from the 16th century, which convey an impressive picture of the self-confidence and wealth of this era. In between, romantic corners and ivy-covered façades invite you to linger and contemplate in peace.

The more than 1000-year-old cathedral, in which Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles are harmoniously combined, is considered the most beautiful hall church in Germany and you should definitely not miss out on a visit. A few steps further on is the town hall with the oldest town hall arbour in Westphalia.

Lively shopping streets and shopping arcades alternate with quiet alleyways and wide squares. Romanesque, Gothic, Weser Renaissance, Classicism and Historicism characterise the cityscape and give it its unmistakable charm. Here you can forget everyday life for a few hours and let yourself be enchanted.
