Cycle on disused railway lines. Through tunnels and across viaducts. From the Ruhr through the Bergisches Land to Sauerland.
Discover a cornucopia of attractions in a relaxing way from the saddle

The Bergisch Panoramic Cycle Trail connects the Ruhr region, the Bergisches Land and Sauerland and covers a distance of almost 133 kilometres. It is also suitable for cycling in stages. An orange sign points the way.

Look forward to many unusual features and views

14 tunnels, viaducts up to 40 metres high and numerous bridges with magnificent views of wide landscapes or the vista of houses as far as the eye can see in Wuppertal – what the art of engineering once developed for train tracks, you can now enjoy in a relaxing way by bike.

Experience the low mountain landscape with its forests and abundance of water, exciting traces of industrial culture and plenty of highlights that invite you to make a stop, such as the Müngsten Bridge park under Germany's highest railway bridge and the small floating ferry across the Wupper that requires a bit of muscle. Or the hill up to Schloss Burg, where the cable car is ready to help bikes (no e-bikes) make the climb.

Part of the “Route des Wasserquintetts” passes blue reservoirs, through the castle town of Hückeswagen and the Hanseatic town of Wipperfürth. On the last section from Marienheide to Olpe in the Sauerland region, the Bergisch Panoramic Cycle Trail takes you on normal cycle paths.

Tip for the cycling season: Bergisch Bicycle Bus

From April to November, the “Bergische FahrradBus” (Bergisch Bicycle Bus) shuttles between Leverkusen-Opladen and Marienheide on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It stops along the Bergisch Panoramic Cycle Trail in Hückeswagen and Wipperfürth. It allows all users of the cycle paths to cover a route or part of a route in comfort by bus. A second service from Burscheid to Bergisch Gladbach via Odenthal was added in 2019. The trailer and the bus can accommodate up to 20 bicycles.
