Directions

We start at the bicycleBUS stop Kurhaus in the district of Berggießhübel. The spa town on the border to the Eastern Ore Mountains has a long mining tradition. Our path leads us out of the town into the forest on beautiful forest roads and crosses the Biela. It continues via Markersbach and Hellendorf, past the Zeisigstein, to cross the old border crossing at Rájec. Forest left and right until we reach Tisá, home of the famous Tissa Walls. For a visit, we leave our bikes outside and set off on foot to explore the rock city.

We cross the street and continue on forest roads eastwards. Shortly after, we reach the foot of the Děčínský Sněžník, known in German as Hoher Schneeberg. The summit is a popular viewpoint for hikers and cyclists alike, and we comfortably pedal up the asphalt road to the Dresden viewpoint, the highest point of our route at 710m. The view is not named without reason - it offers a truly beautiful outlook over the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to Dresden and the Ore Mountains.

After a well-deserved break, we roll back down the same way and turn right. At the next shelter, we leave cycle route 23 and turn left back toward the Saxon-Bohemian border. We ride to Bielatal and briefly follow the Saxon Central Uplands Route. Those who wish can make a detour to the Hercules Columns, while all others continue via Raum and Bahra back to Berggießhübel. Along the way, there are a few more panoramic views.

Once in Berggießhübel, there is the chance to visit the Marie-Louise-Stolln, a visitor mine where iron ore was formerly extracted. On hot days, you can cool off in the Freibad Billy just around the corner.
