- Start: Königstein train station / Rosenthal village square
- Destination: Königstein train station
Our ride starts at Reißigerplatz in Königstein near the local train station. You can get here by S-Bahn from Dresden or Bad Schandau. With bicycleBUS 242 or 246, it goes uphill towards Rosenthal-Bielatal. Along the way, there are boarding options in Leupoldishain, Nikolsdorf, Cunnersdorf and Bielatal.
In Rosenthal there are several bicycleBUS stops - the further we go, the more elevation we save. You can get off, for example, at the village square or Mühlsteig. Then we immerse ourselves in the forests of Rosenthal and reach the Fuchsteich after a short distance. This was created more than 400 years ago to float tree trunks over the Cunnersdorfer Bach or the Biela towards the Elbe. For this purpose, water was dammed here. Nearby is the Taubenteich, the second pond on this route, serving the same purpose. For the floating itself, the respective weir was then opened.
There are rest areas at both ponds, and since 2016 there is even a bivouac of the Forest Trail here at Taubenteich. Two shelters accommodate up to 10 people, and five tent sites provide additional space for overnight stays. The bivouac site is also equipped with an authorized fire pit and a compost toilet.
Our route now leads us away from the border, and we follow the Krippenbach steadily downhill towards the Elbe. Along the way, we cross the Saxon Central Uplands route and pass through small towns such as Kleingießhübel and Krippen, where we join the Elbe Cycle Path.
From here we are flexible and could return to our desired starting point at any station of the S-Bahn line S1. We cycle back to Königstein and enjoy the views of the rock formations in the Elbe valley along the route.
