This sporty bikepacking tour is ideal for anyone who wants to experience the Osnabrücker Land region in this intensive way and who is in the mood for a little adventure: the digital route, which is around 250 kilometers long and starts at Osnabrück main station, is mostly on paved paths. The main challenge lies in the daily distance of around 80 kilometers to be covered. In addition, the crossing of the Teutoburg Forest involves a good 1,300 meters of elevation gain.
Our three stage suggestions are ideal for a long weekend. The tour is also designed so that you can pitch your tent in the evening in a cozy spot on a farm or at a campsite by the lake. However, it is definitely advisable to enquire or book in advance!
The first stage runs largely along the River Hase to Bippen in the north of Osnabrücker Land. The second day takes you via Quakenbrück past impressive monasteries to the Kronensee lake in Ostercappeln-Schwagstorf. The final stage is the royal stage, as it leads through the Teutoburg Forest via Bad Essen and Bad Iburg to Osnabrück. If you feel like it, you can take a leisurely stroll through the old town at the end.
You can find more information about the route here on our profile at komoot.
Note: unlike the other routes in the Osnabrücker Land region, this tour is not signposted with a logo. However, the route is available as a GPX file for free download.
If you decide to spend the night elsewhere during your tour, we would ask you to pitch your tent only on campsites, vacation farms or similar for nature conservation reasons. We promise you that we also have beautiful spots to offer here.
What is bikepacking?
Bikepacking is a fantastic way to enjoy freedom on two wheels. Equipped with minimalist camping gear, you head out into the great outdoors for several days on a sporty, off-road bike. The lighter the bike, the more fun it is to ride. In contrast to classic bike touring with a pannier rack and a setup consisting of six panniers, bikepacking involves keeping the mountain or gravel bike as manageable and suitable for off-road riding as possible. The weight is distributed centrally on the frame with various bag systems.
As a bikepacking newbie, it is best to start with a shorter tour. A relaxed day trip with an overnight stay in a tent is ideal for this. This is also a good way to test whether the bike has been packed properly. With the length of the tour, the nature of the trails and the accommodation options, our bikepacking tour through the Osnabrücker Land region offers ideal conditions, especially for bikepacking beginners.
Good preparation is everything, but the motto for luggage is "keep it simple". Below we have put together a small packing list for a multi-day tour with overnight stays outdoors:
- Small tent or tarp
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping mat
