Naturraum Johannisbachaue

The Johannisbachauenlandschaft stretches along the lower reaches of the Johannisbach between Brake and Bielefeld's Obersee. From its source near Hoberge-Uerentrup to its mouth in Herford, the Johannisbach flows for 26 km through the Teutoburg Forest.

From Brake, we follow the lower course of the Johannisbach between the railroad track and Herforder Straße on this cycle tour on low-traffic paths. At Hof Meyer, the natural course of the stream has been preserved. The management of the surrounding green area has increased the diversity of species. Upstream, white storks can be spotted in the lush meadows.

Obersee nature reserve with a viaduct worth seeing

A fantastic photo motif awaits photo and cycling enthusiasts at Obersee: the Schildesche Viaduct. Built in the 1840s by the Köln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, the viaduct is one of the oldest examples of German railroad history.
The Obersee can be easily circumnavigated by bike. Numerous resting places invite you to have a picnic and linger. Young cyclists will enjoy the playgrounds by the lake.

Dam ponds near Heepen and the Lutter green corridor

Cyclists can relax under the shady trees at the Heepen dam ponds. The River Lutter flows alongside the cycle path. One of the largest farms in the region, Hof Meyer zu Heepen, is idyllically situated by a reservoir. The pond offers a beautiful photo opportunity with a reflection of the half-timbered building. On the way back to Bad Salzuflen, you follow the River Lutter.

Bird trail in Bexter Forest near Bad Salzuflen

Bird lovers and ornithologists will get to know the 1.5 km long bird trail in Bexter Forest, which is well worth experiencing. The hiking and cycling trail leads around the 49-hectare woodland. Several information boards provide interesting details about rare bird species and their importance.

VitaSol Therme

After exercise and moderate exertion, the body relaxes and regenerates very well in hot and cold baths. For example in the thermal spa landscape of the VitaSol Therme Bad Salzuflen. One of the highlights of the spa is the intensive brine pool with 12% brine content. Almost floating weightlessly, bathers listen to underwater music and relax in a soothing way. The WellnessLounge, the KochWerk and the SaunaPark round off a pleasant stay at the spa.
