With this cycling route, you explore the European city Görlitz/Zgorzelec and cycle along the Neisse on both the Polish and German sides.

The two cities of Görlitz and Zgorzelec stand like few other cities in Europe directly for European history: separation after World War II, tentative rapprochement, closed borders, and intensive joint developments since the political change in the former GDR in 1989.

Together with Zgorzelec, the Polish district located on the eastern side of the Neisse, Görlitz declared itself a European city in 1998 and serves as an example of how the people of two nations can overcome borders. Since the expansion of the European Union in 2004, the city has literally moved to the center of the continent. International cooperation in all areas has since formed the basis for the exciting further development of the city in Europe.

Directions

Start the cycling route at the Altstadtbrücke and cross the bridge to Zgorzelec/Poland. You cycle along the Neisse to the Stadtbrücke and past the Dom Kultury. Then continue along the main road to the STALAG VIII A memorial. On the grounds of the former POW camp STALAG VIII A, a European memorial and meeting place has been established through German-Polish cooperation.
Then head south to the Polish village of Radomierzyce/Radmeritz. There is the border crossing back to the German side. Now follow the signs of the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path to Görlitz. On the way, you have the opportunity for a stop at the bucket-wheel excavator in Hagenwerder and the Neisse Viaduct in Görlitz. From the cycle path, you have a wonderful view of the masonry arch bridge connecting Görlitz and Zgorzelec in Poland.
Nearby you pass the Obermühle along the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path. Here you can take a break and relax. A little off the Obermühle is the Landskron Brewery-Manufactory. There, during a tour, you learn interesting facts about beer brewing and of course can also taste beer, so a detour is worthwhile! The cycling route ends again at the Altstadtbrücke.
