There are countless sights along the way that are well worth a visit. You should therefore take plenty of time to tackle the almost 130 km long section of the 1,270 km long Elbe Cycle Path.
Pirna is the starting point of this route. The town is best known for its picturesque old town on the market square with the town hall, St. Mary's Church and the Canaletto House (now the Tourist Information Center). Here you hop on the saddle and cycle down the Elbe towards the north-west. The well-maintained cycle path takes you through the charming Elbe landscape to the state capital of Dresden. Here we start at Pillnitz Palace and Park with the surrounding vineyards, cross the famous Blue Wonder in the Loschwitz district and then cycle along the river, past the Elbe castles to Dresden city center. On the opposite side of the Elbe, the baroque old town with the Frauenkirche, the Semper Opera House and the Zwinger is a delight. On the right bank of the Elbe, Dresden Neustadt offers a contrasting program with creative art, culture and a colourful, trendy district full of clubs and pubs.
The route continues through the beautiful wine landscape to Radebeul. Here you can visit the Hoflößnitz winery with the Saxon Wine Museum, the historic village green of Altkötzschenbroda or the Wackerbarth Castle adventure winery. In Radebeul, you will also find an ADAC bike service station on the Elbe Cycle Path, where you can carry out small repairs to your bike yourself or pump up the air using the integrated tools. The next town you pass is Coswig. Here, the Kötitz bathing lake is located directly on the Elbe cycle path, where you can plunge into the cool water in summer. In the Coswig district of Sörnewitz, the Schuh winery awaits its guests. This family-run business is the perfect combination of winemaking and hospitality. Here you can discover, experience and enjoy. As you continue along the Elbe, the view of Saxony's smallest mountain range, the Spaargebirge with the Boselspitze, opens up. A detour is worthwhile, you can stop off in the beer garden at the top, visit the species-rich botanical garden of the TU Dresden and enjoy a wonderful view of the Elbe valley. Once you have passed Coswig, you enter the beautiful town of Meißen. Here you can visit the Johanniskirche cycle path church. If you take a detour to the left bank of the Elbe, many sights await you, such as the old town of Meissen with its quaint alleyways, the famous Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen, Meissen Cathedral and the HAUS MEISSEN adventure world.
Afterwards, you can still experience the beauty of the charming wine and river landscape as you pass through the next town of Diesbar-Seußlitz. Seußlitz Castle and Park and several cozy wineries await a visit here. If you take a short detour into the vineyards, you can enjoy the sweeping view over the Elbe valley from the "Most Beautiful Wine View 2020". There is also an ADAC bike service station in Diesbar-Seußlitz, which you can use if required.
As you continue towards northern Saxony, you pass the large steel town of Riesa as the Elbe continues to widen. The Elbe floodplains are crossed again and again, a natural experience full of flora and fauna, even white-tailed eagles can be observed here. The next ADAC cycle service station is located in Lorenzkirch, a district of Zeithain.
Before reaching Torgau, the route takes in more nature away from the river course and crosses a few communities such as Graditz, home to the Graditz main stud farm, a place to visit not only for horse fans.
A few kilometers later, you reach your destination of Torgau. You can feel the 1,000 years of history in every corner of the historic old town. From the Renaissance market square, it is just a few minutes to the most important surviving early Renaissance castle in Germany - Hartenfels Castle. From the Hausmannsturm tower, for example, you have a beautiful view over the roofs of the old town and the Elbe meadows. Torgau thus forms a worthy conclusion to the Dresden Elbland stage of the Elbe Cycle Route.
The route on the left bank of the Elbe takes you back to Pirna: Elbe Cycle Path - Dresden Elbland section (Pirna - Torgau)
