Erlebnisweg Sieg - Most beautiful forest district in NRW

Forest, forest, and more forest. The nature reserve "Wälder auf dem Leuscheid" is the largest contiguous forest area in the region and is considered the most beautiful forestry district in North Rhine-Westphalia. Comfortable forest paths invite you to meditative self-reflection or sociable group routes. Around the beautiful recreation area "Hüppelröttchen" you will learn interesting facts about trees, bees, and more.

Directions

From the Stromberg car park, a wide forest road first leads you slightly uphill, followed by a forest path through the open area of a former spruce stand up to the "Quaden". Here, the next forest generation is gradually emerging. Right next to it lies the "Mönchskopf", which the route also passes by. The route runs over the ridge of the Leuscheid through the forest. Open spaces repeatedly create surprising perspectives: here too, "more climate-resistant" tree species such as pedunculate oaks, silver firs, sweet chestnuts, and bird cherries gradually replace the former spruce stands. Shortly thereafter, a section at the forest edge provides a lovelier view: before you reach the former forester's house Hüppelröttchen, your gaze wanders over meadows, ponds, and fruit trees. This is a good spot for a longer break; next to a herb garden, there is a viewing bench and an attractive forest and bee nature trail waiting for you. Afterwards, it goes downhill to the Melchiorweg car park, the alternative starting point of the route. From there, you follow the forest path that leads you into a mixed forest along the mountainside of the "Schaden". At the edge of the forest, the "Friedrichsquellen" provide refreshing drinking water – directly from nature! The route now winds along a wide forest road around numerous small valleys on the slope. Repeatedly, clearings in succession areas offer distant views over wooded heights. Soon the Mühlenbach is reached, which you follow to its mouth into the Sieg. Along the steep bank, an asphalt path leads you back to the starting point.
