Never losing sight of the Spree, this route offers idyllic views of the Bautzen old town as well as many culinary stops along the way. From mustard manufactory, mustard mill to brewery, ... beer gardens and inns, everything is included on the way.

This route invites you to relax: it’s not just about culinary delights, but also the enjoyment of nature. And both are known to be good for body and soul.

Note: We recommend checking the opening hours in advance!

The route starts at the Tourist Information: Here you will find a selection of regional products as well as the best route tips. From here, it goes to the mustard shop with museum. Of course, the famous Bautzen mustard must not be missing on a gourmet hike. Here you can discover and also taste many different varieties. Passing the St. Petri Cathedral and the Nicolaikirche ruins, you now walk down the Nicolaistufen steps to the Spree.

There you will find the Hammermühle, a unique technical monument. Even today, production continues here, including delicious mustard and oils such as linseed oil. You can also find other regional products in the mill shop. You now follow the Spree on the old town side to the beer garden Spreeblick. This is located almost under the Friedensbrücke and offers fantastic views as well as fresh beer from the Bautzen brewery “Frenzel Bräu”. Although the hike has just begun, we still recommend a break. Those who want to continue immediately have the chance to stop by the brewery shop on the return leg.

Upstream, you now leave the town heading towards Humboldthain. Here you can enjoy quiet and relaxing nature. Next, you reach the small town of Grubschütz, where you will find the country hotel “Zur guten Einkehr” with an adjoining restaurant. Here you can unwind in an idyllic setting before heading back to Bautzen. On the return journey, a stop at the Frenzel Bräu brewery shop or a brewery tour is recommended (dates and times available at www.frenzel-braeu.de).

In Bautzen, you will find a variety of restaurants with regional cuisine waiting for you in the evening.
