- Start: Tourist Information Bautzen-Budyšin, Hauptmarkt 1
- Destination: Schloßstraße in the old town (not far from the starting point)
The approximately 3 km route leads past many monuments of the Bautzen history trail, is perhaps the most beautiful route to both take a closer look at many sights and enjoy the best views of the medieval city fortifications, the castle, and the historic old town in its entirety. Side trips along the way are worthwhile to visit, for example, St. Peter's Cathedral, the Sorbian Museum, Mühltor, the youth hostel, or Alte Wasserkunst. At the end of the route awaits the richly furnished Bautzen Museum.

Directions
- Starting at the main market, the route goes via Fleischmarkt, Schloßstraße, Ortenburghof through the exit gate onto Reymannweg, continuing through Mülhltor to Wendischer Kirchhof.
- After visiting the Alte Wasserkunst or in summer also the Michaeliskirche, the path leads through Mühltorgasse and by the Sorbian National Ensemble to the right at the traffic light intersection.
- Keeping to the right, you reach the Friedensbrücke with the famous view of Bautzen.
- At the end of the bridge, turn right twice as if you wanted to go underneath it. Scharfenweg leads to the base of Alte Wasserkunst, but before that turn left onto "Am Protschenberg."
- With your head slightly turned to the right, you will enjoy beautiful views through and over city walls and the castle.
- Not without having taken some Protschenberg photos, walk along the cemetery wall and descend the Protschenberg steps to the Seidau district, where a visit to Hammermühle offers a variety of culinary souvenirs (mill shop).
- On the last section of the route, climb the Nicolaistufen again. After a look down from the edge of Nicolaifriedhof towards the Spree, continue past Nicolaiturm to the youth hostel, then through the Zwinger to Schülertor, right through and then left into the next alley. From there you view Bautzen's Alte Kaserne from behind, proceed onto Wendische Straße and turn left to see the front of Semperkaserne. Then walk to the leaning Reichenturm, also open April to October, and straight ahead to the Bautzen Museum. A visit to this richly furnished house from 1912 marks the end of the route. At the latest, after the manageable efforts, you can reward yourself with culinary treats at the restaurants and cafés in the old town.
