This charming river hiking route can be designed to different lengths. Whether on the pilgrim's path from Bautzen to Grubschütz, to Obergurig, or even Großpostwitz? The bus helps you get back!

On the Saxon Way of St. James / Spree cycle path, past the Spree bath, it goes via Neuesche Promenade into Humboldthain. The mostly shady path follows the river course to Grubschütz, where the "Spreetal" invites you to stop for refreshments. From here, you could hike back the same way or continue along the Spree. The Doberschauer Schanze, a remnant of a Sorbian castle complex, is worth a detour. In Obergurig, the Old Watermill is an attraction. It charmingly combines a technical monument and culinary delights. Continuing along the Spree cycle path, at the 300-year-old stone arch bridge, the Kuchenhäusel offers refreshment. Here, the old trade route Bautzen-Prague crossed the Spree. From Mönchswalde, you can catch a bus back to Bautzen at the "Mönchswalde Wendeplatz" stop. The route continues along the road towards Berge, with a view of the Großpostwitz church tower on the left, walking into the village up to the main road B96, and from Pilgerschänke, you take a bus back.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The "Kuchenhäusel" is a bakery with a café operation in the garden on beautiful days! From Großpostwitz - Pilgerschänke, almost every bus goes to Bautzen.
