A real low mountain tour awaits you. Cycle along the Weser to Godelheim and continue across Maygadessen up to the typical hilltop village of Bosseborn. The approx. 4 km long ascent is strenuous but worthwhile, because once you reach the top, you will not only discover an idyllic village centre around the church, but can also enjoy wonderful views of lush fields and meadows and the Weser Uplands.
From here on, you will continue downhill past the Heiligenberg Chapel. A sublime place where Corvey monks had a church built as early as the 11th century, but which has been used by people for ritual purposes for much longer. You then follow the route along numerous images of saints in equally numerous wayside shrines steeply downhill to Lütmarsen and back to the Weser town of Höxter.
For navigation, you can also find the route on outdooractive and komoot.

Directions
You start your low mountain tour at the historic town hall. Directly before the Weser bridge, turn right onto the Weser cycle path and follow the cycle path past the leisure centre to the mouth of the River Nethe. Just before the wooden bridge, turn right, then immediately right again and shortly afterwards left to reach a main road a little later. Turn right again and immediately right again to take a short detour through the old centre of Godelheim. You then cross the main road and the ascent to Bosseborn begins. Before it gets really steep, however, you will pass a beautiful pedal pool and the idyllic Maygadessen estate. Shortly afterwards, you follow the road in a small left-right turn and the sign on the side tells you that you still have four kilometres of steep ascent ahead of you to the next seating and rest area in the village centre of Bosseborn. The climb through the forest gets steeper and steeper, but when you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a marvellous view. Follow the designated route to the church square and enjoy a break in the shade of the old trees.
Afterwards, keep left and cycle out of the village onto the Bosseborn plateau. At the fork in the road, keep left and about 200 metres later take a sharp right turn. Follow the road through lush meadows and fields and turn left at the end of the road to turn left again at the small wooded area towards the Heiligenberg chapel. At the end of the road, turn slightly downhill to the right and shortly afterwards arrive at the small church.
On the subsequent steep descent, please do not trust the images of the saints in the wayside shrines, but only your (hopefully) well-functioning brakes! Once you arrive at the cemetery in Lütmarsen, follow the route and the cycle path signposts back to Höxter.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Take a break at the Heiligenberg Chapel. Presumably on an old Saxon sacrificial site, the Corvey monk Humbert had a basilica built here as early as 1079, which was an important place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages.
Today, an impressive chapel from 1626 welcomes you here with a high altar with an image of St Michael the Archangel and the 17th century Salome altar. Incidentally, it is the only place of worship in the German-speaking world where St Mary Salome is venerated.
