Lake Zacharias, today a nature reserve, is a groundwater lake created by sand and gravel extraction. From the observation hut on the south shore you can overlook a large part of the lake and observe waterfowl and wading birds.

In spring you can observe wading birds such as Redshank and Greenshank, Common Sandpiper and Spotted Redshank. Cormorants and lapwings are breeding and the call of the Curlew echoes around the area. In May you can see Teal and Garganey, Gadwall and Widgeon on the lake. In summer, the Greylag Geese are moulting. During the autumn migration period you can sometimes observe Cranes at dawn when they have spent the night at the lake. In winter, ducks, geese, cormorants and divers gather at the lake.

Directions

Starting from Delbrücker Weg, turn left just before the riding stables into the cul-de-sac and walk to the end of the road. Then turn right into Bleidiger Weg. A boardwalk leads from the information panel to the observation hut.

The circular trail (1.5 km) goes around the lake at some distance from the water. Starting at Delbrücker Weg, it then leads through the open fields in an eastward direction. From the farm track "Zum Freien Stuhl" you turn left in the direction of the Boker canal and follow the path through the forest towards Lipperbruch and back to the Delbrücker Weg.
