After leaving Frankenhausen Monastery, the "Luther Trail Saxony" approaches the border with Thuringia. Here there is a connection to the "Luther Trail Thuringia". The two paths meet in Ponitz and separate again in Altenburg. Altenburg has a special significance for the Reformation. It was not only one of the most important residences of the Saxon electors. It is also associated with the name Georg Spalatin, who was the closest confidant, secretary and confessor of Elector Frederick the Wise. As a confidant of Luther, Spalatin was an important mediator between Luther and the Elector for many years.

Directions
In Crimmitschau, start at the market and then head north into Leipziger Straße. From here, turn into Zeitzer Straße and follow it to Waldstraße. From there, the route heads north out of the town. Behind the artificial ice stadium, the route follows the Sahnbach stream in a westerly direction, crosses the S54 and then runs north along the Pleiße. After passing under the A4 highway, you reach the district of Frankenhausen. In Frankenhausen, the route crosses Leipziger Straße into Mittelmühlstraße. Follow this road to Löpitz and then continue along Bahnhofstraße. Cross the Pleiße on this road and then turn left into the street "An der Pleiße". The trail now follows the route marked with a green "L" on a white background northwards to Merlach, where it turns right into Zschöpeler Straße. From there it heads north again, past Kauritz and Gößnitz. Here the path runs parallel to the S5 S-Bahn line. After Mohrbach, turn right off Walter-Rabold-Straße and walk to Bornshain. From there, head north via Maltis to Saara. Continue along the course of the Pleiße via Mockern and Ehrenberg to Paditz. Leave Paditzer Straße at the quarry, cross the B93 and enter the town of Altenburg. In Altenburg, the trail then continues from the large pond via Teichvorstadt, Berggasse and Jungferngasse to a traffic circle, where the Luther Trail turns off into the castle park.
