For long stretches, this hiking trail leads directly along the Mulde river, past Nimbschen Monastery, where Katharina von Bora, who later became Luther's wife, lived for 14 years before she managed to escape. The route continues via the small village of Schaddel, where you can visit artists' houses, and along forest and meadow paths through nature reserves and bird sanctuaries. In the village of Schönbach, there is a mountain church to visit, and then the route continues through the forest to Colditz. Colditz Castle can be seen from afar. The Renaissance town hall and the town church of St. Egidien complete the panorama. The reformers were also persecuted here in the 16th century. In 1523, four Protestant pastors had to answer to the Bishop of Merseburg for their beliefs. A cantor's society was founded in 1580 from the choir that was formed in 1540.
