Hike through the fascinating Mulden landscape near Grimma via the certified vacation village of Höfgen and the grounds of the Nimbschen monastery ruins.

Over the Pöppelmann Bridge out of the old town of Grimma, the Path of Stones, a thematic hiking trail, leads parallel to the Mulde River to Höfgen. Along the way, the hiker passes the city forest, the Rabenstein, which allows a wide view over the river landscape, and the stone cliffs. The path is dotted with sculptures by renowned artists. The ‘village of the senses’ becomes a true experience with its old farmsteads, meadows of scattered fruit trees and the wildly romantic hollow. From Höfgen, a hand-operated yaw rope ferry takes you across to Nimbschen, paving the way past the famous monastery ruins back to the city of Grimma.

Directions

From the train station, the path leads to the city center through the Swan Pond Park, past the Luther Monument and the Church of Our Lady. Once in the city center, the trail crosses the Pöppelmann Bridge to the other side of the Mulde River. Now the path runs south between the city forest and the Mulde River. To the right, the view falls on Gattersburg Castle and the suspension bridge of Grimma. The path runs through the forest along the Lange Grund and finally up the Rabenstein. After descending a few steps, the path now continues again on asphalt along the Mulde River until you reach the Schiffsmühle, on the right side of the Juttapark. The path ‘Zur Schiffsmühle’ now leads to the district Höfgen. Passing the water mill and heading back towards the Mulde, you will now cross over to the western bank of the river. A few steps through the forest and soon the monastery tavern at the monastery Nimbschen are reached. Between the edge of the forest and the Harthgrundbach, continue north until you pass the Nimbscher and Colditzer Landstraße. The turnoff to the right leads directly to the castle Gattersburg and at the Swan Pond Park back to the starting point.
