This small route takes you to probably the most beautiful shelter on the Brunnenberg in Bad Elster. Enjoy this place of quiet and retreat.

In the Royal Gardens of Bad Elster, you enter the richly branched path network of the forest park and up to the Kreuzkapelle. The ascent is moderate. The beautiful place of worship was built as a shelter in 1877 and is a place for quiet retreat. A babbling fountain and the solitude of the forest offer the perfect setting. Pay attention to the particularly artistic design of the windows and walls! (Further information on site)

The path there leads directly past the over 100-year-old NaturTheater facility, today Bad Elster's modern open-air arena.

Enjoy the forest on the Brunnenberg with various tree species, lush green moss, and an area still characterized by a vegetation untypical for this region today and under nature protection: the Wacholderhübel.

The return path leads you with a beautiful panoramic view through the district of Reuth finally back to the Royal Gardens of Bad Elster.

Directions

First, go to the back of the Albert Bad Therapy and Wellness Center to the entrance of the Medical Training and Movement Center.

You are standing right at the foot of the Brunnenberg and enter the Almweg here (direction Ringweg Ostring / yellow cross). Walk up gently. Above the parking garage, let your gaze wander once again to the left over the Royal Gardens and the town of Bad Elster.

After a short time, the NaturTheater Bad Elster and the »Waldquelle« restaurant-café come into view. For the planned hike, take the path to the right, which runs along the fence of the NaturTheater. Through the fence, two historic ticket booths at the former entrance of the over 100-year-old facility can soon be seen. This is also where the toboggan run, which was located on the right hillside, ends. Continue to follow the path along the fence and come to an old lounge pavilion, which today lies deep in the forest. It was built to allow outdoor cure treatments even in bad weather. These were part of the spa therapy for a long time.

After a few steps, take the path that branches off to the right (sign Kreuzkapelle 600m) and go uphill. Soon you will reach the Wacholderhübel. It is covered with herbs of heather, bilberries, and lingonberries as well as old juniper bushes. This area is under nature protection. The path through this area leads directly to the Kreuzkapelle. Take a pleasure break at this wonderful quiet place of retreat and then continue along the path you came on. In doing so, you cross the toboggan run. Take a look down! You can only admire the brave sledders who mastered this steep descent. As already mentioned, the valley station of this run was located right by the two former ticket booths of the NaturTheater, which is now directly below you.

The path continues straight ahead, where you will soon reach a crossroads. Turn left here and cross the old Schanzgraben. In a few meters, you can already see the green board with the description of this facility. Continue on this path until you finally encounter the Almweg again, marked with a yellow cross, and turn left again. Follow the Almweg, which soon runs along a fence. As soon as this fence ends, turn right downhill. The path leads through the district of Reuth and empties into Untere Reuth at the local connection turning right to Bad Elster. Follow this street about 200m to the right and on the other side of the road / at the height of the Ascher Straße junction, you will reach the path into the Paul-Schindel-Park. Orient yourself by the path sign with the blue stripe, which leads you past the Catholic Church of St. Elisabeth to the Louisasee (gondola pond) and finally past the rose garden into the historic spa park towards the bathing area.
